Alderney, 1964. AGNES, 24, works alone as a switchboard operator in the telephone operator exchange. Agnes uses her powers of deduction and local knowledge to help the police track an abduction. But things take a turn for the worse when she realises everything is not as it seems.

MEET THE DIRECTOR
Oliver Pearn is a filmmaker that grew up in Worcestershire, UK. Not following a traditional film education, he read history at University. At the age of 24, he set out to write and direct his debut feature film ‘On The Line’. He has worked across many departments including Assistant Directors, Art, Locations, and now Covid on Lord Of The Rings. He is is looking to build his body of work as a Writer/Director.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
While working at an international healthcare charity, I was moved by people’s life experiences, and at this time someone close to me took their life. I created this film in the hope that people feel able to reach out for help without fear or judgement. Sydney Pollack’s film The Slender Thread inspired this story. Both it and my film take place in the 1960s. At this time switchboard operators held a unique position of responsibility to keep communities connected. And yet, today, with all our resources, we are still disconnected from each other. On The Line has only 109 cuts, including one at over eight minutes. It is shot entirely in one room, with one actor onscreen and designed to invite introspection and one’s own thoughts of love, loss and hope.
