MEET THE DIRECTOR
Born in Rabat, Layla Triqui is a director and producer.
She obtained a diploma in set design, then took a directing course at the FEMIS in Paris, followed by courses in Berlin and Leipzig.
Since 2001, she has directed and produced dramas and documentaries for television, several of which won awards at the Cairo Festival, as well as 6 short films for cinema, including Chapelet (Cinit Ciemme prize, Milan / Venice Film Festival 2002) Sang d’encre (Critics’ Prize, Tangiers National Festival 2005 / Cannes 2005 / Venice Film Festival 2007) and Coule la rivière (Cannes 2006).
Meeting the late Abbas Kiarsotami and Martin Scorsese at the Marrakesh/Tribecca filmmakers exchange workshop in 2005 had a definite impact on the director she is today.
In 2011, Layla Triqui collaborated with Egyptian director Ahmed Nour, producing his feature-length documentary ‘Waves’, which won an award at the Alexandria Film Festival in 2012.
Since 2015, she has worked with several producers as artistic director and director on documentary and fiction series such as ‘10 femmes de notre histoire’, ‘Casa jusqu’à la mer’.
She has been teaching for 8 years at the Institut Supérieur d’Art Dramatique et d’Animation culturelle and at the Acting Institute since 2018 alongside her audiovisual and film projects.
Her first feature film وشم الريح / Carved by the wind was finalised in January 2024.
