Set between the sandstone colleges of Oxford and the salt-encrusted Suffolk coast, Breakwater follows the tentative romance between university student, Otto, and retired angler, John. Their lives fuse irreversibly over the shared trauma of losing a loved one. However, their relationship darkens when the past exhumes itself in the form of guilt, grief, and ghosts.

MEET THE DIRECTOR

 

Max Morgan is an award-winning writer/director and filmmaker from Suffolk.

‘Breakwater’ is Max’s feature film debut. It is the University of Oxford’s first feature film since 1982. In addition to ‘Breakwater’, Max has written and directed several award-nominated short films and is in post-production on a feature documentary about the folk tradition May Day.

Max also writes and directs theatre, including ‘Carrion’ (2024), which received a sold-out Edinburgh Fringe run and was shortlisted for the 2024 Peter Shaffer Playwrighting Award.

He is currently developing a limited TV series set in rural East Anglia.
